Американская медицинская ассоциация поддержала женщин в вопросе о праве на аборт в США

На протяжении последних месяцев в США активно развивается дискуссия о праве женщин на аборты. Все началось с официального запрета абортов в штате Алабама. Далее на рассмотрение были вынесены соответствующие законопроекты в Луизиане и Джорджии. В ответ многие звезды, деятели культуры и представители бизнеса выступили против. Например, президент Netflix Тед Сарандос рассказал о планах закрыть производство фильмов и сериалов Netflix в Джорджии, а позже более 180 директоров компаний высказались на страницах The New York Times против запрета абортов. Теперь в противостояние включились представители Американской медицинской ассоциации (AMA), защищающей интересы всех врачей США, которые подали в суд на власти Северной Дакоты с требованием заблокировать законы штата о запрете абортов.

Президент АМА Патриша Харрис выступила с официальным заявлением, отметив, что помимо нарушения прав женщин законы не могут быть восприняты всерьез, поскольку основываются на псевдонаучных или недоказанных врачебных теориях. Кроме того, ассоциация осудила обязательное предупреждение врачами беременных женщин о том, что аборт прекращает «жизнь целого, отдельного, уникального, живого человека» и назвала законы антиконституционными.

В марте АМА уже подавала в суд на штат Орегон, который реализовывал указания администрации Трампа в рамках федеральной программы планирования семьи. В частности, эти правила запрещают врачам и другим медицинским работникам направлять беременных пациентов на аборты.

AMA также поддержала последнюю оставшуюся клинику Северной Дакоты, имеющую лицензию на проведение хирургического аборта.
