Австралийский совет моды и организация First Nations Fashion and Design объединились для создания модного инкубатора. Его основной задачей станет поддержка локальных модных инициатив и дизайнеров. Уже 7 августа пройдет первый мультибрендовый показ From Country to Couture, который откроет 13-ую ежегодную Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair. Это одно из крупнейших событий Австралии, посвященное искусству коренных народов. На ярмарке будут показаны работы более 2000 художников из более чем 70 арт-центров по всей стране.

First Nations Fashion and Design заручились поддержкой еще нескольких государственных организаций: университета RMIT Мельбурна и Технологического университета Сиднея – а также получили грант Arts Queensland. Ранее в стране проходила Неделя моды коренных народов Австралии, однако вскоре организаторы мероприятия заявили о банкротстве. Основательница First Nations Fashion and Design Грейс Лиллиан Ли принимала участие в ней в 2014-м и отмечает, что «Австралийская Неделя моды коренных народов была действительно хорошей платформой для бизнеса и взаимодействия людей в индустрии. Я полагаю, что, создавая модный инкубатор, мы продолжаем инициативу Недели моды с точки зрения того, что мы хотели бы донести знания о модном бизнесе до общин, обучать их представителей, а затем мотивировать их развивать собственные начинания».

Среди первых результатов сотрудничества организации Ли с австралийским модным советом – показ коллекции мельбурнского дизайнера Лизы Горман, созданной совместно с Центром искусств Мангкая. А также инициатива «Дизайн в стране», в рамках которой художники из Западной Австралии и Мельбурна сотрудничают друг с другом.
